La Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), es la institución académica del nivel superior que mayores aportes y contribuciones ha hecho a favor del desarrollo de la provincia Barahona, así como la Región Enriquillo.
La afirmación la hizo el Director General del Recinto Barahona, Maestro Manuel Antonio De La Cruz Fernández, a través de un comunicado de prensa en la que anunció que el 29 de abril próximo tendrá lugar la primera investidura oficialmente como Recinto. Será de grado y postgrado.
Se recuerda que el entonces Centro Regional Universitario del Suroeste (CURSO), que el pasado octubre adquirió la categoría de Recinto, fue la primera unidad académica creada fuera de su sede central hace 51 años por la academia estatal y desde entonces –afirma- De La Cruz Fernández, ha sido el faro de luz que ilumina el desarrollo de la provincia y la región.
La unidad de Registro del Recinto estima que en esa ceremonia de investidura se gradarían unos 400 nuevos profesionales de grado en diferentes áreas del saber, así como un número importante de postgrado que finalizaron sus estudios en distintos programas de maestrías.
Manuel Antonio De la Cruz Fernández, Director General del Recinto, expresó su satisfacción por esta ser la primera investidura a celebrase luego de adquirir la categoría de recinto a finales del año pasado.

De la Cruz Fernández, dijo que esa misma alegría reina en los servidores universitarios: docentes y administrativos, lo que garantiza desde ya el involucramiento de todos los sectores universitarios a lograr el éxito de esta investidura.
Reiteró que es la primera ceremonia de investidura que realizan oficialmente como Recinto Universitario, pero recuerda que se trata de la ceremonia número 46 que efectúa esta unidad académica en 51 años de existencia.
De La Cruz Fernández, afirmó que la UASD ha sido clave para el desarrollo social y económico de la Región Enriquillo con la formación de profesionales, tanto de grado como de postgrado que hoy contribuyen con el empoderamiento de sus respectivas comunidades.
El principal funcionario de la Primada de América en la Región Enriquillo, dijo que en 51 años de existencia en la zona Suroeste la UASD ha formado a 10,888 profesionales en distantes áreas: Derecho, Comunicación Social, Contabilidad, Educación, en sus diferentes modalidades, entre otras carreras.
