“¿Y tú de dónde eres?”. “¡Qué bien hablas catalán! Si pareces de aquí…” o “tú no eres negra, eres café con leche”. Y el comentario que se lleva la palma: “¿Te puedo tocar el pelo?”. Esta es la cantinela que han tenido que escuchar toda su vida las mujeres afrodescendientes que nacieron en España o llegaron cuando eran muy niñas y a las que todavía hoy, afirman, se las trata como a inmigrantes. Una discriminación que sufren por partida doble: ser mujer y negra.

Pertenecientes a una comunidad de la que ni siquiera hay un censo oficial e infrarrepresentadas en los medios y la esfera pública, con contadas excepciones como la diputada de Podemos Rita Bosaho o la cantante Concha Buika, están hartas de que se las juzgue como unas ‘facilonas’ o unas delincuentes por su color de piel. Bajo el paraguas del ‘feminismo negro’, se han unido en colectivos como Black Barcelona para apoyarse y defender que ‘lo normal’ no es ser blanco, hetero y de clase media, y que, además de machismo, en España se vive un racismo estructural.

Código Nuevo ha hablado con algunas de estas mujeres para que nos expliquen algunas de las situaciones más violentas y cansinas que se repiten cada día en sus vidas:

La gente siempre se extraña de ver que una negra hable catalán y te felicitan o cambian de idioma y te hablan en castellano. Soy adoptada y siempre he tenido que ir justificándome porque mis padres son blancos y yo no. Te preguntan de dónde eres y ya no sabes si lo que quieren saber es por qué eres negra, por qué eres adoptada, o qué… Mi sobrina, por ejemplo, es blanca y un día me preguntó que por qué yo era negra. Se lo estaba explicando cuando se me ocurrió preguntarle si no tenía compañeras negras en el colegio. Me dijo: “Sí, una”. Y le dije: “¿Y qué tal?”.

Me contestó que le miraba mal y que yo era una negra ‘diferente’. Son pequeñas situaciones cotidianas que te acaban cansando. Cuando te repiten cuatro o cinco veces que eres muy inteligente, como si fuera normal, empiezas a pensar que es por tu color de piel.

La pregunta clave es: “¿De dónde eres?”. A ver, no entiendo que no les quepa en su mente que por tener unos labios más grandes o un color de piel distinto no puedo ser de aquí. Este verano estaba en un chiringuito de playa cuando el camarero me hizo esa pregunta y le respondí que de Barcelona. El hombre contestó: “No, en serio, ¿de dónde eres?”. Y yo: “Pues nacida aquí”. Y me obligó a explicarle que era adoptada y, aún así, continuó insistiendo hasta que tuve que decirle que hay muchas personas a las que abandonan de niños y no conocen su origen. Acto seguido, cambió de tema y me preguntó si quería el plato combinado número seis o siete.

Luego te ocurren otras cosas, como una madre que no quiso que su hija se sentase a mi lado en el autobús. Estas situaciones te hacen plantearte cómo el hecho de tener un color de piel te coloca en un lugar u otro. Se sorprenden incluso de que tengas estudios superiores, o te hacen ese comentario horrible de “tú no eres negra, eres más clara. Tienes un color de piel muy bonito”. No, yo soy negra. Aunque la gente diga que no es racista, ¿quieren realmente que sus hijos se casen con una negra?

Nací en Guinea Ecuatorial, pero cuando tenía dos años nos instalamos en España. De niña viví en Madrid y Toledo y me di cuenta de que allí utilizan más tu raza para discutir contigo, como insulto, que en Cataluña. otra cosa que me molesta mucho es que todo el mundo te toque el pelo sin permiso porque es diferente. Los blancos no van tocándose el pelo por ahí y, en mi caso, me pasó sobre todo cuando era niña. Otra cosa que también me llama la atención es que mis hijos, que han nacido en un contexto de diversidad, aún sean insultados por sus compañeros de clase por su color de piel. Siento perplejidad porque yo fui la única negra en mi colegio y de las pocas en el instituto y la universidad, pero con ellos debería ser diferente, ¿no?

Provengo de una familia de mucho mestizaje: un abuelo negro, una abuela indígena y otra húngara. Mi madre se casó con un hombre más oscuro que ella y mis primos son todos blancos, menos yo que soy negra. Desde pequeña he vivido con los que me decían que tenía que arreglarme más por ser negra para compensar y poder encontrar trabajo. Y ese hábito inculcado me ha dado mucho resultado en Barcelona. Jamás me han pedido la documentación sin motivo por la calle, ese tipo de cosas.

Pero, un buen día, estaba esperando el autobús vestida con unas sandalias y una camiseta cuando una mujer apartó el bolso y se alejó. Si le hubiese dicho algo me lo habría negado. Eso es el microrracismo, no te tiran una piedra pero te miran mal. Y, como mujer negra, cuando voy a una discoteca es mucho más fácil que un chico te toque, porque se entiende que somos más sensuales, calientes, etc. Es el estereotipo que impera. Y no lo digo solo yo, hablando con otras amigas todas compartimos la misma experiencia, los mismos prejuicios.

La poeta afroamericana Maya Angelou escribió: “Somos el sueño realizado del esclavo”. Un frase que abandera la lucha de estas mujeres que creen que el feminismo no sólo debe conseguir la igualdad de género, sino de raza y de clase. Y la mejor manera de comprenderlas, como dice Mariana Olisa, representante del colectivo Black Barcelona y colaboradora de Afrofeminas es “tener amigas negras o seguirlas en Facebook. Nunca podrás sentir lo que sentimos nosotras, pero podrás conocernos mejor”.

El clip de vídeo pertenece a Nadie me ha dado vela en este entierro, un proyecto de entrevistas que trata de visibilizar a las personas a las que rara vez se pregunta cuando se trata de hablar de nacionalidad o patria en España, además de reflexionar sobre la cuestión de la identidad.
