Precios de alimentos en República Dominicana variaron un 0.96% en marzo, mientras que el índice de precios de los alimentos de la FAO se incrementó en un 12,6% en el mismo período, el más alto desde 1990
 
Santo Domingo.– Los incrementos de precios internacionales se reflejan en los costos locales de los alimentos, pero no en la magnitud de las alzas mundiales, porque el Gobierno aplica políticas de apoyo a la producción y de protección a los consumidores para manejar esta crisis mundial.
 
El director de Estrategia y Comunicación Gubernamental y vocero del presidente Luis Abinader, Homero Figueroa, dio a conocer la tarde de este domingo, en un comunicado, el impacto internacional de los aumentos en productos comestibles y las medidas adoptadas por el Gobierno dominicano para impedir que lo altos precios se transfieran a los consumidores.
 
“El pueblo dominicano debe estar seguro de que manejaremos esta crisis internacional de precios con la misma habilidad que aplicamos ante la pandemia. Nuestro propósito en esta coyuntura especial es proteger el presupuesto de las familias dominicanas al mismo tiempo que mantenemos el apoyo a la producción nacional”, dijo Figueroa a través de su cuenta de Twitter.
 
Resaltó que el Gobierno aplica políticas de apoyo a la producción, como financiamientos a tasa cero y el subsidio a las importaciones de materias primas. También aplica políticas de protección a los consumidores, como el subsidio a los combustibles, el incremento de los subsidios directos alimenticios y la venta de productos de la canasta básica a bajos precios.
 
A estos esfuerzos, agregó, se integrará una ley temporal que eliminará los aranceles a las importaciones de 67 productos de la canasta básica de alimentos durante seis meses.
 
El índice de precios de los alimentos de la FAO, explicó el vocero presidencial, es una medida de la variación mensual de los precios internacionales de una canasta de productos alimenticios.
 
Manifestó que la  medida es el resultado del promedio de los índices de precios de cinco grupos de productos básicos. Puso como ejemplo que en marzo de 2022 se incrementó un 12,6% por encima de febrero del mismo año.
 
Esto representa, indicó, el nivel de incremento más elevado registrado desde 1990, y se  explica por las alzas históricas experimentadas por los aceites vegetales y los cereales.
 
Citó que el índice de precios de los aceites vegetales presentó un aumento en marzo de un 23,2% respecto a febrero. Esta pronunciada subida, señaló,  se vio impulsada por la disminución de la oferta, la creciente demanda y los valores volátiles del petróleo.
 
Asimismo, el índice de precios de los cereales se ubicó en marzo en un 17,1% por encima de febrero. Este aumento, manifestó, se explica por el súbito incremento del trigo y de los cereales secundarios como consecuencia del impacto del conflicto bélico entre Rusia y Ucrania en las exportaciones de los dos países.
