CEMEX coprocesa en sus hornos cementeros residuos recogidos en limpieza de playas de San Pedro de Macorís

San Pedro de Macorís. – Con miras a continuar construyendo un futuro sostenible y como parte de su programa Futuro en Acción, colaboradores de CEMEX unieron esfuerzos en el voluntariado corporativo participando en la Jornada de Limpieza de Costas y Riberas de los Rios en coordinación con la Dirección Provincial de Medio Ambiente de San Pedro de Macorís, Coalición del Rio Higüamo y el Instituto de Derecho Ambiental de la República Dominicana.

Los esfuerzos de recolección de residuos se llevaron a cabo en 4 playas de San Pedro de Macorís y con su participación en la jornada recolectando alrededor de 100 sacos de residuos reciclándose el 65% y coprocesándose el 35%. CEMEX busca educar a la ciudadanía en la economía circular con la reducción y mitigación del impacto ambiental, así como en la prevención de la contaminación. Igualmente, abogar por la reutilización de los desechos sólidos y coprocesamiento de los residuos que pueden ser aprovechados en los hornos cementeros, tales como: foam, textiles y calzados, entre otros.

CEMEX es un consumidor de residuos neto y brinda soluciones de gestión de residuos en varias ciudades alrededor del mundo. El uso de residuos como una alternativa a los combustibles fósiles mitiga la cantidad de residuos enviados a los vertederos que generan metano, un gas de efecto invernadero que es más dañino para el medio ambiente que el CO2.

 “Nuestro compromiso con la sostenibilidad y el correcto cuidado del medioambiente es cada vez más fuerte; participar en esta jornada de limpieza de playas con la recolección de los residuos para su reciclaje y coprocesamiento es un aporte más para vivir en un futuro sostenible. Además, el coprocesamiento de los materiales que no puedan ser reciclados es una gran alternativa ya que este proceso destruye el residuo por completo, lo aprovecha, contribuyendo de esta manera en la reducción de la problemática de los residuos y el calentamiento global ya que es una solución sostenible” afirmó José Antonio Cabrera, director General de CEMEX Clúster (RD, PR & HAI). Durante la jornada de limpieza se llevaron a cabo diversas charlas con los voluntarios CEMEX donde se detallaron acciones para aprovechar los desechos, reducir emisiones de carbono e identificar los residuos valorizables para darles una nueva vida a través del reciclaje, así como los residuos aptos para el coprocesamiento en hornos cementeros. La iniciativa va alineada con los pilares de Futuro en Acción, el programa de CEMEX para alcanzar cero emisiones netas de dióxido de carbono al 2030 y 2050.
