Alcaldía de Miches y GIZ firman acuerdo para la gestión integral de los residuos sólidos y el reciclaje de plásticos
Santo Domingo.- La Alcaldía de Miches y la Cooperación alemana para el desarrollo, GIZ, a través de sus proyectos Caribe Circular y El Seibo Resiliente, firmaron un Memorándum de Entendimiento con el objetivo de implementar acciones conjuntas que promuevan la reducción del uso de plásticos, el reciclaje y un mejor manejo de los residuos sólidos en el municipio Miches.
Acorde al convenio, se implementará el programa “Miches más limpio” que promueve una cultura local para clasificación y reciclaje de residuos en Miches. Además, impulsa acciones de prevención de residuos, el desarrollo de jornadas de sensibilización local participativa y el establecimiento de proyectos piloto que permitan mejorar la cadena de valor para los comercios en las comunidades de intervención.
Svenja Paulino, directora del Programa Biodiversidad y Negocios en Centroamérica y República Dominicana de la GIZ, expuso que el manejo integral de los residuos es de vital importancia para mitigar los impactos negativos sobre el medio ambiente. “Con la firma de este Memorándum de Entendimiento contribuimos a que la alcaldía continúe avanzando en la gestión institucional de los residuos con participación de las comunidades, organizaciones y comercios de esta localidad”, expuso.
Para la firma de este acuerdo, las partes consideraron la importancia de esta zona costera, por el potencial desarrollo de acciones enfocadas al turismo sostenible, y que, en este sentido, se hace necesaria la institucionalización de una gestión integral de los residuos en el municipio.
Luz María Mercedes, alcaldesa de Miches, valoró positivamente el convenio y destacó el rol que está jugando la GIZ en la conservación de la biodiversidad en esa localidad. “Desde la Alcaldía nos comprometemos a la coordinación con todos los actores locales y cumplir cada una de nuestras responsabilidades con el objetivo de que en nuestro municipio aumente la cultura local de la prevención y minimización del impacto de los residuos sólidos”, dijo.
La Cooperación alemana para el desarrollo, GIZ, firmó este acuerdo en el marco de dos de sus proyectos: El Seibo Resiliente, una iniciativa del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales de la República Dominicana, financiado por la Unión Europea y co-financiado por el Ministerio Federal Alemán de Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo (BMZ), e implementado por el propio Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y la GIZ; y el proyecto Caribe Circular, ejecutado por la GIZ por encargo del Ministerio Federal de Cooperación Económica y Desarrollo (BMZ) y la Unión Europea.
Acorde al convenio, el Proyecto Caribe Circular será responsable de los componentes relacionados al desarrollo de capacidades locales en materia de prevención de residuos, equipamiento, planificación e implementación de pilotos, asesoramiento para la aplicación de tecnologías y soluciones para reducción y transformación del plástico y otros residuos relacionados.
En tanto, el proyecto El Seibo Resiliente será responsable de las acciones orientadas a la participación comunitaria por medio de programas de sensibilización para la prevención de los residuos, así como también en la implementación de programas piloto.
De su lado, el Ayuntamiento Municipal de Miches será la contraparte responsable de coordinación con organizaciones locales, permisos para actividades en espacios públicos, y monitoreo periódico de los resultados de las acciones en colaboración con los proyectos El Seibo Resiliente y Caribe Circular. El Ayuntamiento, además, se compromete a liderar localmente, apoyar con la difusión de las informaciones y avances sobre el estatus de las acciones y servir como canal de soporte para los ciudadanos de Miches.
